Hundreds of participants and thousands of spectators gathered at Wascana Lake on Canada Day for the 2018 edition of the Plywood Cup, which raised $60,000.00 in support of Hospitals of Regina Foundation and other local children charities. The funds will be used to support Pediatric Services at Regina’s hospitals and other community child health-care initiatives.

“Once again, the people of southern Saskatchewan have risen to the challenge,” says Travis Brown, chair, Plywood Cup. “It’s amazing to see how much this event has grown over the past 14 years. As a result of that growth, we’re able to help more children each year.”

The Plywood Cup requires teams of four to use only two sheets of plywood, a handful of construction materials, and their creativity to construct a boat. Given a time limit of 90 minutes, the teams worked feverishly to construct a craft capable of sailing across Wascana Lake without sinking.

“We are so grateful for the support of the organizers and participants of the Plywood Cup,” says Dino Sophocleous, president and CEO, Hospitals of Regina Foundation. “Every year, more than 9,000 children seek help in Regina’s hospitals. Thanks to events like this one, our children will get the help they need, right here at home.”
