30 years of Hospitals of Regina Foundation: Breast Assessment Centre
The statistics are startling. One in nine women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Fortunately for women in southern Saskatchewan, they have access to timely, effective diagnosis and treatment right here at home.
In 2005, Hospitals of Regina Foundation committed to raising funds to establish the Breast Assessment Centre at the Pasqua Hospital. The goal was to create a seamless, diagnostic and treatment system that would provide efficient care and support for all women in our community.
Following extensive renovations and the investment in advanced diagnostic equipment, the newly renovated Centre officially opened its door in 2006. Thanks to the generosity of many community partners and donors, patients have access to a facility that delivers prompt, accurate and less invasive breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Today, the Centre has evolved into a leading diagnostic centre with state-of-the-art breast imaging, biopsy and diagnostic technology. Patients can have their testing done in one place, usually in one day. Imaging results are often given directly to patients at the time of their visit. This lessens anxiety during a very trying time and provides the first-rate care they deserve. Last year alone, the Centre had nearly 3,600 patient visits.
Through the partnership between the Foundation and our community, we have an assessment centre that continues to make lives better for the women of southern Saskatchewan.
